A new ICOPER Suitability Report for Better Practice addresses guidelines for integrating instructional models with open educational content using IMS Learning Design. The report, which is a tough read for people not used to the standardization community jargon using lots of acronyms, concludes with the following recommendations:
- Software developers should apply and promote standardized Unit of Learning visualizations for learning design and delivery. These visualizations should be based on successful business model notations, according to this report. Examples of such notations are Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) or Event-driven process chain (EPC).
- Educators should make sure that services like audio/video conference, blog, forum and virtual classrooms are supported by IMS Learning Design editors.
- IMS Learning Design players should support the content formats used by the SCORM Reference Model, as this enlarges the potential of iMS-LD. Furthermore, the IMS Common Cartridge specification should be studied in in current practices to see the real advantages, as it may play an important role in cloud computing approaches.
